Best Holiday Sweets and Treats
Posted in Lifestyle by JenWe all have our guilty pleasures, especially around this time of year it’s the perfect season to splurge – from Thanksgiving to Christmas everyone has that one dessert their sweet tooth craves for. Here are just a few top favorites:
Hot chocolate
Ah, a true classic that’s hard to turn down. I don’t know if it’s just me but on those cold winter days and nights I always long for a nice, warm cup of hot chocolate. It’s a treat that has just the right amount of sweetness. Even those who aren’t too fond of chocolate can’t say no to this one.
Eggnog
The most traditional drink that usually comes to one’s mind when thinking about Christmas and the holidays; this rich, holiday classic makes a great dessert after a Christmas feast or at any holiday party.
Butter cookies
This was surprisingly a very popular answer I received when I asked about the holidays and what’s the first treat that comes to mind a lot of people agreed that this was one of their all time favorites. Even my boss said that every holiday he looks forward to his mother’s butter cookies cause she makes it the best (mother’s always make the best food don’t they?). Not the healthiest snack but definitely worth it. If baked just so it reaches that point of perfection, where it isn’t browned on the bottom, it melts with one bite just like butter. It’s incredible; you should try it if you haven’t already.
Caramel popcorn
A sweet delightful delectable just right for those holiday movie marathons (ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas anyone?!), it’s even great for a gift. Yes, I’m sure we all remember those huge tin cans our parents received during the holidays. A tub so full of delicious caramel popcorn it was a given warning that our teeth might rot or we would get sick if we ate too much. But who really cared? It’s an old-fashioned holiday treat that people still enjoy to this day.
Peppermint, peppermint, peppermint!
Anything minty is a holiday given! Candy canes, mint chocolates, mint hot chocolate, peppermint mocha latte, need I say more? I’m sure when the holidays come around we all wait for that one minty goody that we can only get around this time of year.
Well that’s all I have for you, I’m sure there’s more to this list; this is just from a survey I did and my own perspective from shopping around. With that being said enjoy your holiday readers! Bring in the New Year with resolutions most of us don’t always keep (especially when it comes to food!).
